Seed Harvesting for Parihaka Maara.

 Harvest time for Yr 7/8.

Both Year 7/8 classses were involved in seed harvesting for Parihaka today as they shelled Black Turtle beans for the community's maara. Seated in true whanaungatanga fashion, the students set to work dealing with the dried seed pods to gather the beans which Parihaka primarly uses to make hummus.
Once the seeds have been collected they will be returned to the community to utilise. Students have asked for this could become a regular activity
While this took place a group of Yr 8 students planted capsicum and cucumbers and weeded the school

maara.

Hover Balloon

Challenge: design a mechanism for weighing down a helium balloon so that it will hover.

Ruma Rua used their creative skills to design a load carrying container for their helium balloons. They then used trial and error and many different creative methods for adding and removing weight to their balloons until they could get them to hover continuously. Several ceiling retrievals were successfully performed, following strict health and safety guidelines. NOT TOO MANY BALLOONS WERE HARMED IN THE MAKING OF THIS iMOVIE.
